Two Cirrus SR20-G2s — N94RS and N36PL — are joining the A4Flight fleet at Sheltair FBO on Denton Enterprise Airport (KDTO). N94RS is on the line and available to members now; N36PL is coming soon. Both are four-seat, glass-panel, CAPS-equipped composite airframes with a three-blade constant-speed propeller, on a published $250/hour wet rate for training, checkouts and real cross-country flying.

This is the step-up airplane the club was built around. The Jabiru J170 gets you to the left seat affordably; the SR20 is what you fly once you want to actually go somewhere — 155 knots true, a 725 nm range, a two-axis autopilot and a cabin your family will tolerate for three hours.

Cirrus access at KDTO, in a club, at a wet rate

Cirrus aircraft are not unheard of in North Texas — there's a factory-affiliated Cirrus training center at McKinney (TKI) and a handful of operators around the Metroplex list SR-series airplanes. What we haven't found anywhere else is what these two airplanes represent: to the best of our knowledge, these are the only Cirrus aircraft based at Denton Enterprise Airport available for general club rental and training. If you fly out of KDTO, this is your Cirrus.

  • Members-only club access rather than a walk-up rental line, so scheduling isn't a lottery against a hundred other renters.
  • A published $250/hour wet rate — fuel included, no dry-rate fuel surprises at the end of a cross-country.
  • Based at Sheltair Denton, the only full-service FBO at KDTO: ramp service, crew lounge, and hangar-line access.
  • One invoice, everything included — including instruction — instead of chasing separate CFI payments.

What makes an SR20 different to fly

  • CAPS — a whole-airframe parachute that gives you an option in scenarios where a legacy trainer gives you none. It is an emergency system with specific limitations and procedures, and it is trained, not assumed.
  • Side-yoke control with a castering nosewheel: light, precise in the air, and a genuinely different taxi and rudder discipline than a 172.
  • Full glass panel with a multifunction display — the avionics workflow you'll use for the rest of your flying career, learned correctly the first time.
  • DFC 100 autopilot, which makes single-pilot IFR workload manageable and makes instrument training about decision-making rather than muscle memory.
  • Composite airframe, 200 hp, and a fixed-gear simplicity that keeps insurance and checkout requirements realistic for club pilots.
  • Leather four-seat cabin with real baggage space, which is the difference between a training airplane and a traveling airplane.

Getting checked out

  1. 1Apply for membership — applications are reviewed by an admin, and the $500 initiation fee includes a one-hour checkout.
  2. 2Sign the consolidated onboarding agreement plus the Cirrus SR20 aircraft addendum, which covers CAPS procedures and configuration-specific limits.
  3. 3Complete the SR20 transition and rental checkout with an A4-approved instructor, meeting our insurer's time and recency requirements.
  4. 4Book the aircraft in the portal at the $250/hour wet rate — one-hour minimum, billed in 0.1 hour increments.

Not sure yet? A $165 discovery flight includes a 0.8-hour flight in the club Jabiru J170 with a CFI, left seat, hands on the controls. It's the cheapest way to find out whether an SR20 is the airplane you've been waiting for.
