Nothing is a mystery. Here is exactly what happens from the moment you walk into the FBO.
Meet at Sheltair, Denton (KDTO)
Your CFI meets you in the FBO lobby, covers the plan for the day, and answers the questions everyone has before their first flight. Bring a friend — they're welcome to watch and, space permitting, ride along.
Preflight walkaround
We pull the airplane out and walk it together — fuel, oil, control surfaces, tires, and why each item matters. This is the same inspection every A4 pilot does before every flight.
Weather and airspace brief
A real brief: today's weather, the wind, which runway we'll use, the airspace around Denton, and what you'll hear on the radio.
You fly — left seat, hands on
Your CFI handles the radios and the takeoff, then it's your airplane: climbs, turns, level flight, and a look at the lakes and countryside north of DFW. If you want the controls all the way to touchdown, we'll talk about it.
Debrief and what's next
We log your dual received — it counts toward a certificate — and map out what training would actually look like on your schedule and budget. No pressure, no sales pitch.

We are based at Denton Enterprise Airport (KDTO) on the north side of the Metroplex — a towered field with quick departures and quiet practice airspace a few minutes away. Here is what the drive looks like from around DFW.
Parking at Sheltair is free and right by the door, and the aircraft are on the ramp outside — there is no shuttle, no rental counter and no ramp fee.
What happens on the day
Ninety minutes, start to finish.
- Step 1
Meet at Sheltair
Arrive at the FBO ten minutes early, bring photo ID, and meet your instructor in the lobby. Nothing to fill in beforehand.
- Step 2
Preflight the airplane
You walk the aircraft with the CFI — fuel, oil, control surfaces, tyres — so you see how a pilot decides an airplane is airworthy.
- Step 3
Fly from the left seat
Hands on the controls for the climb, turns and cruise. Your instructor works the radios and handles the busy moments; you do the flying.
- Step 4
Debrief honestly
Back on the ground, we log the time in your name and talk through what training would actually cost and how long it would take you.
