We fly from Denton Enterprise Airport (KDTO), roughly 40–50 minutes north of downtown Dallas via I-35E or the Dallas North Tollway, and 25–35 minutes from Frisco, Plano and The Colony.

Why train at Denton instead of a Dallas-area airport?

Shorter taxi and run-up queues, no Class B clearance wait, and an uncongested practice area minutes from the field — so more of each billed hour is spent flying.

What aircraft can I train in?

A Jabiru J170 light sport for the lowest hourly cost, or a Cirrus SR20-G2 with glass panel, autopilot and airframe parachute for cross-country and instrument work.

Do you offer Part 61 training?

Yes. Training is Part 61, which lets us build the schedule around your calendar rather than a fixed course timetable.

We train from Denton Enterprise Airport (KDTO), about 40 minutes up the Dallas North Tollway from Uptown and closer still from Frisco, Plano and Carrollton. What you get for the drive: a field with no Class B clearance to wait on, short taxi times, and lessons where the meter is running on flying rather than on holding short.

At Addison or Dallas Executive a run-up line and a clearance wait can eat a fifth of your lesson. At Denton you are usually airborne within minutes of engine start, and the practice area is right there.

Denton is closer than most Dallas pilots assume.

Uptown / Downtown Dallas

About 40–50 minutes via I-35E or the Dallas North Tollway, and the traffic runs against the commute for morning lessons.

Frisco, Plano, The Colony

Roughly 25–35 minutes across the top of the Metroplex — often quicker than reaching a Dallas-side field.

Carrollton, Lewisville, Flower Mound

15–25 minutes straight up I-35E to the Sheltair ramp.

How training works

Part 61, paid as you fly.

No enrolment fee and no package to buy up front. You are billed for the aircraft time and instruction you used, on one club invoice, after the flights happen. Membership and dues belong to the club side of the house — they are not required to earn a certificate.

Fly the aircraft that fits

Train in the light sport Jabiru for the lowest hourly cost, or the Cirrus SR20-G2 if you want glass, autopilot and a parachute from day one.

Track every requirement

The member portal logs your flights and shows exactly which Part 61 experience boxes are still open.

Billing

One invoice. The club handles all of it.

A4 handles all billing, including instruction. Aircraft time at the published wet rate, instruction and membership dues arrive on a single club invoice — you never settle up separately with your CFI, and instructors never chase students for payment. The club pays approved CFIs directly.

Our facility

Based at Sheltair, the full-service FBO at KDTO.

A4Flight Academy flies from Sheltair at Denton Enterprise Airport — the field's full-service FBO. Members and visiting pilots check in through the Sheltair lobby, and our aircraft sit on that ramp.
